Live Theatre in Castle Park, Colchester
After two successful shows around the Castle Bailey, this is the inaugural season of theatre in the park in our special new home. As in previous years, we continue to celebrate Colchester’s cultural and historic past as well as showcase those professional creatives who have made their home here.
As with any project such as this, there are a lot of people to thank including our project partners, corporate sponsors and our wonderful audiences. What better way to start off Castle Park Theatre than with the greatest story ever told. Expect sea battles, feuding friends and of course that famous chariot race, all performed by just four actors. How are we going to do it? Buy a ticket and you’ll find out.
A funny and touching play about friendship and creativity as a writers’ group deal with their own lives by writing a stage play about the life of the woman who burnt Colchester to the ground.
Old King Coel is not a merry old soul. He called for his bowl, that didn’t help. He called for his pipe, that made him worse, and don’t even go there when his three fiddle players started to perform. Can a tailor from Colchester, with his magical needle and thread, help?
Shakespeare’s political thriller gets a unique modern-day twist as the conspiracy and plotting is plucked from the villas and temples of Ancient Rome and placed into the corridors and classrooms of an English secondary school.
Seven mini-performances in seven different parts of Colchester’s Town Hall tell the history of our town over the last 70 years. Each performance has been created following a series of storytelling sessions with seven different community groups.
Gates open an hour and a half before each performance for audiences to enjoy the space.
A purpose built new bar will be open for food and drink before each show and during the interval. Audience members are allowed picnics in the space and are advised to also bring chairs, a warm coat and blankets.
Performances will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions.
